Sexual assault. I know what you’re thinking: this topic has been written about to death. Well, then why isn’t there any change happening? It’s easy for us to talk about the thousands of things that are wrong with society, but none of it matters unless there’s any change. And that change starts from the very first level.
Sexual assault. I know what you’re thinking: this topic has been written about to death. Well, then why isn’t there any change happening? It’s easy for us to talk about the thousands of things that are wrong with society, but none of it matters unless there’s any change. And that change starts from the very first level.
There’s an inherent problem with the socialization in our society. When it comes to issues of sexual assault, our first thought is to chide the victim. After all, if she wasn’t wearing such a short skirt or such a revealing top, none of this would’ve happened, right? Wrong. This happened because of the abuser. No change in outfit would’ve prevented them from trying to get handsy. No longer pair of pants would have stopped them from trying to take what wasn’t theirs. Yet still, we continue to focus on the victim. How does that make sense?
I live in a society where girls don’t go out at night unless they’re accompanied by a buff boy. Where I have to put a jacket on over my tank top before answering the door. Where people have to carry around pepper spray in broad daylight to ward off attackers. Because the shame in such an incident lies solely on the victim. How can we expect to see a change, if we’re not willing to start changing our own households? Teach your children that touching anyone without their consent is not only a crime, but is shameful and an ugly thing to do. Eliminate the phrase “they were asking for it” from your vocabulary. Listen to people when they tell you that a situation is making them uncomfortable, and make a change. You can’t expect other people to make changes if you aren’t willing to yourself. If we all start small, we have the power to become a society where everyone can truly feel safe and isn’t that what we all want for our futures?
Sexual Assault is our modern terms. Any being in this animal kingdom are designed to think of reproduction when their stomach is full.. human beings are also a kind of genes who think that reproduction is the agenda if they find a partner. So we are living in such a planet. But, what I agree about your point of educating this society to make them understand, what they are doing is a sexual assault can be achieved, since human beings are the only species on this planet who can think consciously before acting to a situation. So this might probably work, when every human being is able to think consciously.. So,I feel that for this revolution to happen, all human beings should be able think consciously about sexual assault and this has to be thought at schools in their biology class by not dissecting a cockroach or a Frog, but by educating a boy or girl to be like a human being. Only when both boys and girls start thinking consciously as human being, this situation will not change. Hope it is going to revolutionize soon and all human beings are able to live peacefully from sexual assault.
ReplyDeleteThat the victim should not shamed is a helpful tool.
ReplyDeleteA word for the boys who imbibe the wrong values in our patriarchal society - they should be raised learning to respect women. Boys should never be made to feel they can get away with harassment
Well written!
ReplyDeleteProper upbringing..ensuring that respect for women is imbibed from the family at an early age will help
But aberrations are prevalent and these (man or woman) should be put down without mercy.
When Sexual Assault is still happening even in a civilised society like USA we need to find the real reason, why sexual assault is always on a Woman and not Man. If we read our history, both man and woman were equal in nature. But it was Women who allowed Men to become the most powerful creature on this earth. Men went out and has conquered all the living beings on this earth but he spared the Women to live alongside for obvious reason we all know. Assume if Women had become the most powerful creature on this earth, obviously, man would have faced the same assault if not sexual assault. So there has been a history to this situation. Women empowerment is happening and man will pay for his exploitation. Will Women win over the sexual assault ? Yes and No. If you observe, no matter how hard you try to educate your society which has been tried for nearly 200 years in a developed countries like USA and UK, sexual assault has not changed. So young minds like you can consciously notice among many parents, woman and man fighting internally to become the powerful humanbeing. So only war happening between man and woman will decide who can win over the sexual assault on this earth.
